Slow typing in Outlook / Word 2007

I know messages have been made about this in the past, but none of the
solutions that I've come across have yet helped me. My symptom is slow
typing: as I edit a message in Outlook 2007 or Word 2007, it often
takes half a second or so for the letters to appear on my screen after
I type them. I'm a fairly rapid typer, so this lack of feedback leads
to a lot of misspellings and wasted time as I go back to correct
mistakes.

So far I have tried uninstalling "outlookaddin.dll", but it wasn't
found in my add/remove programs list. I've also disabled all of the
COM add-ins from the Trust Center. The problem has remained the same.
Currently I am opening drafts in Outlook, saving them, then opening
them up in outlook web access in Firefox just so that I can write them
without going crazy. I have only been using this computer for a week
(new company), so I doubt my .pst file is very large.

Googling for "outlook slow typing" leads to numerous pages and posts
going back to when the product first came out. (E.g.
http://www.microsoftweblog.com/2007/03/29/is-office-2007-too-slow-for-you/
) Has there been any work going into solving this issue? I doubt I
will be able to convince my IT manager to revert me to Office 2003,
but Office 2007 is barely usable in the state that it's in; I spend
just as much time fixing typos as I do actually typing.

Any suggestions would be helpful...

Matt,

Let me start off by saying I am not an expert in this field. However, my
experience with the lag is that it usually only happens when OL2K7 is
checking the server for email and when it is saving a copy of the email as a
Draft. So you might try disabling items like auto save and spell check as
you type, to see if it speeds you up any. tools/options/ spelling Tab then
Spelling and Auto Correction.
Just remember to run spell check after you're done your message.
Good luck

Dale
