Sorting email addresses

Can someone tell me a way to seperate email addresses in the tree form. For
example having folders under the contacts folder. I am not talking about a
Group. I want to pick names from a selected group under contacts. If I
group names, I have to send to the whole group. I want to pick names from
the group instead of picking from the hundreds I have in the contacts
folder. I know this has got to be possible, I just don't have any idea what
I am looking for.
