is there a way to edit source (in the notepad) of a web page through ms
publisher?
so it stays in .pub file for next updates

No. Sorry that is not the way Publisher works. It is not a code editor.
Perhaps try to find a way to make your edits using the insert > html code
fragment feature. That will stick with the .pub file.

it did not work - put my code directly on the page :)
I added some fun to our website created and updated through ms publisher
unfortunatelly , every time I update the website I have to add manually this
extra piece of source code :(

Post your URL and the code snippet and tell us what you are trying to do and
perhaps someone will be able to offer an alternative.

Sounds like the OP used a text insert rather than the html fragment insert
OR the code is corrupted.

I added mouse trail code and embeded sound which during updates using ms pub
disappears so everytime I manualy rewrite source adding what I need

if there is a way to save it in a pub file for good it would be great

Not the answer you want but what I believe to be true is that you can not
use the html fragment insert with the code you are using as it must be
placed in the <head> section. The html fragment function inserts code in
the <body> section. Looks like you will have to insert the code after the
fact each time you update the site.

some of it is the <head>, some in the <body> and part in the <body> tag
itself
thank you guys for clarification
at least I will not waste my time hoping and searching the net

all the best :)

I don't have any suggestion about the embedded sound, but I would suggest
that you at least try to "compress the pictures". You have a cool looking
background picture, but it is over 1 MB is size! That means it takes about 5
minutes for me to download with my dial-up connection. Guess what...I am not
staying around that long. Also in FireFox on at least one page the menu
buttons did not down load until after the background picture. That meant I
could not navigate from that page for 5 minutes...guess what, I didn't stay
around. Here is the image:

I don't know if the compression feature will compress the background picture
or not, but you should try and if it doesn't compress it, then perhaps you
should consider using something else.

David,
great point regarding background gif!
well, I took the site after somebody else and I have noticed the big size of
background pic
also each page has a different gif ?!?
I replaced gif -1MB with jpg -136kb on my master page but apparently it is
not so easy :(
what should I do so each page would use same small jpg as a background pic?

DavidF

Don't use a Master Page with a Publisher web page...it creates problems.

Most background images are smaller than 136kb. Perhaps just 160 X 160 and 5
kb. The small image is tiled in the background to fill the "white space".

Format > Background and then Apply a background or More Backgrounds > Fill
Effects > Picture tab which then allows you to browse to an image that you
want to use. You can try your image, but I would still "compress pictures",
and/or choose a simple color, texture, etc that loads faster...
