Split Tasks

I am trying to split a task using Edit / Split Task click mouse etc yet the
task will not split. Am I missing something obvious?

Hi Ian,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

It should work - is there any constraint stopping the finish date from
moving out? Try splitting from the Task Usage view by entering zero work
where you want to split the task. What version and SP are you using?

Many thanks for your reply.

Although the allocation of daily hours can be set through Task Usage and
entering zero work the bar remained solid ie no split.

I am using MS Project Professional 2003 and SP?

Go to Format / Layout and check if you have the "Show Bar Splits" option on.

This is basic but you never know...

Install SP3 and have another try.
Another thought - try Format/Layout... and make sure you click to Show bar
splits.
