Spreadsheets Compress or Overlap

Excel 2000, In my Excel spreadsheet, if I leave the spreadsheet open the
columns will compress or overlap about 20 lines. If I get out of that
spreadsheet and return to it, the spreadsheet looks fine for about 15 min.
Then it compresses or overlap again.
How can I stop this?
