Starting out?

Hi,
I just installed Office XP Professional 2002 on my Dell, running XP. The
only thing I've had so far is MS Works, so I'm somewhat familiar with office,
but there's a lot to learn! I've been unsuccessful at downloading Service
Pack 3 so I ordered the CD, and I'm trying to find the 'right' book that
would cover everything I need to use this program efficiently. Two questions
come to mind right now...can I safely remove Office from my start up to save
resources, and what would be the most practical application to enter a
family/Christmas card list so I can print out labels when I need to? thanks!

And the reason you purchased what is now an obsolete version and not the
latest is...? Seriously, I'm curious. MS will cease to support Office XP in
under a year.

To answer your other points - I'm not sure what you mean by start up (Office
has never been in my start up - though, admittedly, I've not touched my PC
for a while - I have a Mac now).

Secondly, the easiest way to print labels is to perform a mail merge in Word
(see help). It's purely personal preference but, when I was running Office
under Windows, I used Avery's Word plugin and their labels (J8163, IIRC) and
it made it pretty idiot-proof. Unfortunately, I cannot do that in Office 2004
(which is Mac only, in case you're worried you're two versions behind!)

If you're referring to the office shortcut, it doesn't use much resource,
and may assist with the usage of Office.
You don't mention your o/s, but it would help having 512mb of sys memory.
