Starting Outlook

I have just bought a new PC to replace my existing one.
When I open Outlook it seems to take ages to open. Once
it is opened it does not automatically download my new
mail messages. On my old PC Outlook opened right away
and my messages downloaded automatically. I have checked
all the settings and they seem okay. Help
