Stop/Resume fields

Hi,

Is there a set criteriathat I need to observe for the Stop and Resume fields
to work in 2003? It seems that sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.
I know I can manipulate a split in the resource usage and task usage views
but it would be more convenient personally to use these columns whilest in
the task entry table to save chopping back and forth between views.

Thanks in advance,

AndyB.

Hi Andy,

I am not sure how you are attempting to use the Stop and Resume fields,
so I can't really comment on why they work or don't work.

The Stop and Resume fields are not populated until you begin to supply
tracking (actual data) to Project and do not show the beginning and/or
end of a task that has been split before tracking data has been applied.

The Stop field represents the end of the actual duration of a task based
upon tracking data. For example, if I have a 5 day duration task which
was scheduled to start last Monday, with one resource assigned at 100%.
Each day has 8 hours of work scheduled. The Stop and Resume fields show
"NA".

I record 8 hours of actual work for Monday and Tuesday. The Stop field
now shows Tuesday's date (when the actual work stopped) and the Resume
field shows Wednesday's date (when the actual work is scheduled to
resume.) I don't do any further actual work on the task until Friday
morning, so I use the Tools > Tracking > Update Project, Reschedule
uncompleted work to move the scheduled work from Wednesday and Thursday
to restart on Friday morning. The Stop field still shows Tuesday's date
and the Resume field now show's Friday's date.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie

Thanks Julie for your reply, it was very helpful and filled in a few of the
blanks. I understand it better now and have tried a few tests all of which
seem to work out. Thanks again,

AndyB.
