Strange message from Word (!!!) at startup

D

Dario de Judicibus

When my system startups, I get an error message. Since I have the Italian
version of WindowsXP, here is the translation. I cannot be sure that the
original English message is exactly the same but I assume fews of you can
read Italian.

"Another session of Word was modifying normal.dot. If you save the document
with the original name, you will loose any change applied in the other
session. Do you want to save the document with the original name anyway?
YES, NO, CANCEL"

Note that I do not open any Word document at startup. The only Office
application starting at startup is the Office Shortcut Bar. I have Windows
XP Home and Office 2000.

You can avoid this message by opening WORD and going to:

Tools, Options, Save

Now remove the tick mark from: "Prompt to save Normal Template" or your Italien translation.

You might have Outlook starting at startup so check this out.

I prefer not to do it. I want to know if someone is trying to modify my
normal.dot.

Excellent choice! Yes, you ALWAYS want to know when something is trying
to modify your normal.dot template.
