Styles in Word 2002

M

Microsoft Word

How can I prevent Word creating new styles automatically?

When I format a text with the style Standard manually for example with the
colour red, Word creates a new style "Standard + red". But I don't want to
have a new style.

Any help.

Thanks

You're not REALLY creating a new style. Word is telling you that you are
using the "Standard" style along with a modification. The modified item is
listed in your task pane in Word XP or the style panel on the formatting
bar, but it's only good for your working document. If you open a new
document, you'll see that the modified 'style' is gone. The only way to
create a real style is make a "New Style" and apply it to your normal
template.

These modified, local styles can actually be helpful in case you want to
quickly copy a modified style throughout a document.
