Summary Task Durations

I have read all of the threads on summary task durations and understand in
principle how they are supposed to be calculated. However, in a very large
project I have created, I have several cases where the summary task shows a
duration of 0 hours despite the fact that it is composed of several subtasks
that have a duration of greater than 0 hours. Can anyone explain this
phenomenon??

Hi Mike,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

It sounds like some corruption in your file. You could try the suggestions
in FAQ Item: 43. File Bloat? - Might be Corruption.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi Mike,

I already saw another post with that very suggestion, already tried it and
it did nothing.

I suspect the problem is due to rounding. I have several tasks that are like
0.1 hours. So when the software tries to roll up 3 or 4 such tasks I think it
may be rounding down to the 0 hours. But I am not sure of that, and I can
find no way to get it to show decimal places. Any thoughts??

Try Tools/Options.../Schedule tab and Durations in entered in minutes. If
you have small durations, this should show the Duration in minutes. if it
stll zero, you have other problems.

We need to discover whether your project is at fault, whether it is Project
at fault, or whether it's your PC. Does the symptom occur with other
projects on this PC? Does it occur with this project on other PCs? Does it
occur with other projects on other PCs?
