Summary Tasks to Detailed Tasks

I have a project in EPM with locked down Time Periods where a resource has
logged actual work protected against a Summary Task. Without opening up the
managed time periods can i add a new Summary above the one with Protected
actuals and by Indenting/Outdenting make the original Summary into a detailed
task which rolls up to the newly added Summary. I have heard that this should
not be done, if not can someone explain why not.
Thanks Gerry.

GM,
I'm not sure what you heard about not doing something but if it is
assigning resources to Summary lines, you might want to go to our MVP
website at: http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and take a look at FAQs 48 and 49.

With regard to your question about attempting to move the summary line
data to a performance task, it should work. Why not try it and see what
happens.

Hi John, Thanks for the reply, I have tried it and all seems to be fine, but
I have heard there are things going on behind the scenes with the way the
rollups are still associated with the task that was once a Summary but is now
a Detailed task. I just wanted to check to see if it was a definate no no.
thanks again, much appreciated. I will take your advice and try it.
Gerry
