No, you can purchase PPT all on its own, and it will include things like the
charting engine -- you don't have to purchase Excel or other Office products
to use PPT.
That said, you might want Word if you use File|Send to|Word to create your
handouts. And you might want Excel if, for example, you often need to plot
error bars or confidence intervals on your charts.
