Synching resources?

Hi,
I just installed Project Server on my system at work for evaluation and
have already managed to screw up my resources. (I read the documentation
where it talks about setting up resources, but obviously didn't understand
it.) Anyway, I created new resources in the Project Server administration
page, corresponding to windows logins. Then I imported a .mpp from Project
Professional. ( I THINK I entered mapping info -- I'm at home now & don't
have the system in front of me). In any case, when I log in as myself, I
don't see my tasks in the to-do list, so something is clearly wrong.

I'd like to be able to demo this to upper management & make a recommendation
as soon as possible, so if there's any kind of step-by step info out there,
I'd sure appreciate a pointer. Basically, I just want to be able to show
assigned tasks showing up in project members' MS Outlook, and their being
able to post their time back into the Project Server database.

Thanks.

Your first mistake was entering the resources in Project Web Access. You
should have entered the resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool, which
would have automatically created the corresponding user accounts in PWA. In
addition, when you imported the project into Project Server, you would have
been prompted to "synch up" the local resources in the plan with the
enterprise resources in the pool. As it stands right now, I believe you
will find that every resource in the imported project is a local resource,
meaning they are local resources to the project and not found in the
Enteprise Resource Pool.

To solve your resource problems, I would recommend you do the following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions and then delete the imported
project (Admin - Clean up Project Server database)
2. Open Microsoft Project, log into Project Server, and then open the
Enterprise Resource Pool
3. Enter the resources you added in PWA, and make sure you exactly match
the names and windows login accounts
4. Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool
5. Reimport the project, and make certain that you match every resource in
the project with resources in the pool
6. Publish the project using Collaborate - Publish - All Information to
"push" the information to PWA

Hope this helps.

Well, I've gotten all my resources straightened out--except for ME! The
problem is that I can see myself listed when I examine the resource list
from the Project Server web interface, but when I try to map from my MS
Project file for importing to the server, my name doesn't show up in the
drop-down. I've tried deleting and re-creating while logged in as
administrator, but that doesn't do any good. I'm baffled (not an uncommon
occurance). Any help would be appreciated.
