Tables & Borders Toolbar not visible

I'd like to see the toolbar for Tables and Borders. I go to View>
Toolbars > Tables & Borders and nothing happens. No toolbar appears.
I unclick it and then reclick it and still there is no toolbar.

The 3 toolbars that I have open are Standard, Formatting and Drawing.
Each of these toolbars cannot be adjusted. The first two are in a
horizontal position. The Drawing toolbar is in a vertical position. If
I move them to other areas of the screen, they stay in their positions.
I can't lengthen them or shorten them either. They are basically stuck,
although operational.

I've changed the view to see if they appear in normal view or Online
Layout. I usually work in Page Layout. No matter which view, there is
no toolbar for tables.

I have a PowerBook G4 running OS 10.4.5. My version of Word is 2004
for Mac, version 11.2. I installed Office for Mac when I was running
Panther and then upgraded the OS to Tiger.

Does anyone know what is going on? I'd really like to use the Tables
and Borders toolbar since I often have tables in my word documents.

Thanks in advance.........Julie

Hi Julie -

How much RAM does your PB have? If less than 512MB that could be a
factor, especially if other apps are running or in a large, complex doc
with graphics, etc.

Another thought - have you *religiously* repaired permissions with your
upgrdes/updates? I don't know that it is the answer, but it can't hurt.

Finally, you can go to Tools>Customize>Customize Menus & Toolbars, on
the Toolbars page select the first one by *name* (not just checkbox),
then click Reset. Do the same for each toolbar.

May it be that the tool bar is "there", but is off the edge of the
screen?

I was guessing that one too. I'd try the "switch to some crazy resolution
in the System Preferences" trick, which should totally reorganize the screen
and unbury anything that may be hiding.

I have 786 of RAM, which should be enough. My PB screen is set at the
highest resolution. I only have 3 options and I tried them all. Still
no tables toolbar. I reset the toolbar and still nothing. I'll search
<http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office> to see if
I can find a solution. I'll already searched
<http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.word> and
couldn't find anything specific to my missing toolbar.

Thanks for the suggestions. One thing I did in the meantime is create
my own customized toolbar. It isn't quite right, but at least it gets
me a few clicks closer to creating and arranging tables.
