Task Approval

Hi,

Need to have two level of approval for a task completion.
For example, when A completes a Task, B has to approve it,
as B approves, C has to approv it, to reflect in the
Project Plan. Do anybody have idea, how we can do in EPM ?
Atleast through custmization.

I heard we can have two approver per task, one task owner
and other resource manager. Have anybody try this ? If so,
could you guide in configuring it ?

Thanks and Regards

In Project Server 2002 or 2003, you can have a two-level approval process if
the project manager (C) originally assigns the task to someone like a team
leader (B) who then delegates the task to the team member (A). During the
delegation process, B must select "Yes" to the "Assume the lead role"
question on the Delegate Tasks wizard in PWA. Once done, when A submits
actuals, they go to B who must approve them and submit them to C, who then
approves them and updates them in the Microsoft Project plan.

An alternative method in Project Server 2003 is the timesheet approval
process that is defined by default for those with the Resource Manager role.
However, this process is voluntary, not mandatory. This means that if A is
the team member, and B is a resource manager, and C is the project manager,
then B is allowed to approve A's timesheet, however, C can approve and
update the actuals whether B has approved them or not. Just a couple of
ideas for you. Hope this helps.

I'm new at Project Server, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

I would like to do something similar. I've created a work plan with
resources specified. Let's say that this is a software development project.
When I publish these tasks, then the Developers would see them when they
login to Project Server. But my Developers don't have accounts in the
Project Server. So when I publish the tasks, what I actually want is for
their Team Leads to see these tasks. Therefore, the Team Leads can update
the tasks for the Developers.

The problem is, in my MS Project workplan, the tasks are assigned to
Developers, not Team Leads. Does this mean I need to modify the workplan so
the tasks are assigned to the Team Leads (and let the Team Leads delegate)?
This would mess up resource leveling. So what is the correct way to do this?

Dale :

Thanks very much for your advise. As i know, we can do the
delagation only through Web Access and only task by task.
Is there a way in EPM 2003, we can do that in Project
proff itself or multiple task delegation at once ?

Since you need to use delegation, I would suggest that you reassign the
tasks to the Team Leads and let them delegate the tasks to their team
members. This could impact resource leveling on tasks that have not been
delegated by the Team Leads yet. Hope this helps.

Task delegation can only be done in PWA. There is no "batch process" for
accomplish this, as it must be done one task at a time. Hope this helps.
