task calendar hours diff from project calendar

i've assigned a special calendar to the project (work hours from 9am to 5pm,
37.5hrs per week, applying to regular office staff). For a few of the tasks
in the project i would ike to apply a differnet calendar so that work hours
are 9am to 9pm seven days a week and these are staffed by casuals. However,
when the casual task calendar is applied it plots a 6day duration as 4days!
But if I change the 'working hours' to reflect the casual calendar, the rest
of my durations change to calculate for the 12hours day. How do I fix this?

Hi Anika,

Be aware that Project calls "a day" whatever you call it in Tools, Options,
Calendar.
Each duration is stored in minutes and "translated" into days through the
parameter in the option.
The applicable calendar will look for the minutes of working time necessary
to plan the task.
So you may well have a task lasting from this morning till tomorrow morning
and which is labeled as 0,5 days or 2 days depending on Tools, Options,
Calendar.

You will find a more thorough explanation in

Faq 5. Default working hours

Jan,
Thanks for the advice however it doesn't seem to work for me. I try to
adjust the task's calendar hours to 12 (to match the 9am-9pm working hours of
the casual staff) and the whole project changes to those working hours. I
have also allocated the casual staff calendar to the casual resources, but to
no avail.
Any other suggestions?
Cheers,
Anika

Hi,

I'm sure there's a misunderstanding.
Task calendars only affect the selected tasks.
Let me have a look at the patient.
Send it to jandemesATprom-ade.be
(Change the AT into @ of course)
I'll give you diagnostic and prescription asap
(My wife's a doctor GP...)
