Task deleted with inactive resource and remaining hours

A PM in my group deleted a task out of a project that had remaining hours for
a resource that is now inactive. Every time he edits the project he gets the
msg that there is an inactive resource with remaining hours. Is there any
way to fix this? Since the task is gone he can't go back in and zero the
remaining hours.

This is in PS2007.
