Task Duration Versus Actual Hours of Effort

I have a task that took two people 8 hours each consecutively. They worked
this actual time over 5 physical work days. When I entered the task into
Project 2007, I entered the task as Fixed Duration and I entered the two
resources with units set to 8h each, rather than a percentage. When tracking
the task, in Actual Start date I entered Monday and in Actual Finish date, I
entered that Friday. Project changed the units to 100% for each resource and
changed the actual end date to Tuesday.

How do I show that although the task was 8 hours for each person, they took
a week to finish it (because they are working on other things)?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

First in the beginning don't change the task to Fixed duration. These
changes are made only for resource assignment adjustment.

Second, if each resource is working 8 hrs in a span of 5 days. So, it is
working for 1.6 hrs in a day, i.e resource units assigned to that activity
should be 0.2 or 20%, because if your resource is following the default
calendar, then there are 8 working hours in a day. So, create an activity
with 5 days duration and default settings. Assign both the resources with 20%
units for each. Automatically resource usage will extend to 5 days and now
when you assign Actual dates your previous problem should not occur.

I hope it helps.
