task panes

Jason

i am trying to make a custom task pane for the following applications:

Word
Excel
PowerPoint

If I was not using powerpoint I could just do the action pane from VSTO,
however, I have to do one for powerpoint and have been unable to figure out a
way to do so. I want to keep all three in the same manner, and I would like
it to be a task pane as is. I do not want to use a research service.

Is there a way to do this, and if so could somebody help me lay out the
basic framework for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jason,

This feature will be implemented in Office 2007.
So far in Office 2003 we have only two approach to make a taskpane.
1. SmartDocument interface
2. VSTO v2
But the approaches above will only support Excel and Word so far.

If you still have any concern, please feel free to post here.
Thanks!

Best regards,

Peter Huang

So, is there any good reason that Microsoft did not add in this support for
powerpoint. It almost seems like they don't want you doing anything in
powerpoint, and the .net documentation is not up to par with the
documentation for word and excel. I spend hours at a time fetching through
VBA documentation.

I don't understand, I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Is there
anything that I can do in Word Powerpoint and Excel that is like a Task Pane,
but not a task pane.

And, thanks for your prompt reply. At least now I can stop chasing my tail
for a few hours.

Hi

I think we are keep improving our product.
In Office 2003, Task Pane will only support Word and Excel, but we are
aware of that and we will add the feature to PPT in Office 2007.
I think this is a process to improve our product.
We present new feature to customer, and customer will send feedback to us,
so that we will know how we can improve our product.
I think this is how the interactive process goes.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Peter Huang
