Task scheduling problem

Timo

Hi,

I have a task with high priority and that takes 10% from resource A. Same
resource has another task with lower priority and needs to work 100% of this
time for that.

Now I would like to get those tasks scheduled so that resource A is used
100% all the time, ie while the high priority task takes 10% the lower
priority task should then take 90% during that time and after that 100% until
low priority task is finished.

How to make that happen in msproject?

Thanks!

Hi,

As such that is not possible since leveling never never changes assignment
units.
Yet there are two alternatives.
One way to achieve the desired result (my preference) is to define the 10%
taska s a (shorter) 100% task and if it has to last over a longer timespan,
as a recurring task but always using 100%.
When the you have the option Leveling can split... on, the smaller (ex-10%)
task will nicely interrupt the low priority one.

A second way (and I know this is ridiculous) is that it does work with the
Week by Week setting.
But then don't come back complaining that some days the resource will be
loaded 110%... it's week by week, not day by day.

Hope this helps.
