Task Usage

B

BCollins

I am a newbie with MS Project and have a quick question. I have created a
resource pool and linked it to another project - let's call it project 2. I
created my tasks in project 2 and went to assign my resources. I realized
that I had left off two resources from the resource pool so I went and added
them. Now when I assign them to the task and view the Assigment Information
the cost field is grayed out.

I did create different cost rates and have it assigned to c - that's the
cost I would like to use. I have also verifed there is an amount in the cost
field in the resource pool. What is happening here.

Hi BCollins ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Have you shared the project with the resource pool? You might like to have
a look at my series on Microsoft Project in the TechTrax ezine, particularly
#17 on Multiple Projects, at this site: http://tinyurl.com/2xbhc or this:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thanks Glen - what a great site. I do have the resource pool shared. In
fact, I am able to pull rates from all resources in the resource pool but the
two new ones I added. Do I need to re-share the resource pool?

Hi B Collins,

Thanks for your kind comment. :)

No, you shouldn't have to as Project automatically accepts the new resources
(I've just checked on my master/pool setup). However, the Assignment
Information form is accessed from a Usage view by double clicking an
assignment, it gives just that: Information. If you want to add costs,
double-click the Resource name to add the data you want. Then, when you
assign the resource to a task, it will calcluate the costs.
