Tasks starting and ending on same Minute at end of day?

I am sure this is a totally simple fix but…..

I have a task that is linked to another. The first take is a one day
duration (8a to 5 p). The second task is also one day but is shown to start
at 5 p on the first day. The first task was finishing on the same minute as
the second was starting. The second task should start at 8 a on the second
day.

Yes I checked the calendar and the hours per day……

A couple of questions to make sure we haven't missed anything:
You mention the tasks are linked -- I assume F to S -- any lead added to the
link?
Could you tell us more specifically what you mean by "I check the calendar
and hours per day..."
What is the working time in the project calendar ?
Are there any resources assigned to the second task and what is the working
time in their calendars? Do they work past 5:00 pm?

The fact that the successor task starts at the same minute as the
predecessor task finishes is not unusual. What is unusual is this is
happening and:
- tasks are linked FS with no lead
- the project calendar is defined as 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00 for
*all* working days Monday through Friday. (Tools > Change Working Time)
- the definition of a day is 8.0 hours (Tools > Options, Calendar tab)
- Resources assigned to the task have the same 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to
17:00 calendar definition
- There are no task calendars assigned to the tasks.
- Calculation is set to Automatic.
