template discussions re;saving and modifying

W2K, Word 2003.Can you point me to the latest source of info on
modifying and saving templates in MVP files or other places? I can't
sucessfully modify headers and footers and have the changes "stick".

What kind of modifications and which templates? Some common points of
error:
--be sure you are opening the actual template and not a document based on
the template to make the modifications
--Corporate policies sometimes wipe your Normal.dot if this is at work
--confusion about what "attaching" a template does (changes styles but not
text or layout)

The latest source of info is here--the ng gets updated far more often than
the website.
