Template Features - Dreamweaver v. Frontpage

C

Cloy

I'm working with a several authors who are using FrontPage.

I'm fairly familiar with FP features, but haven't worked with
templates. Response to these questions would be appreciated --
especially if you've worked with both DW and FP:

1. How does the template feature in FP compare to the one in DW?

2. Are templates linked back to the original? Can they be? (i.e., if I
change something in the original template, will it automatically update
all pages that use the template?)

3. Are templates created in the root web available to authors of
subwebs?

4. Any idiosyncracies of FP templates that I should be aware of?

Thanks, in advance!

I'm not aware that it works that way. True in powerpoint and with .css it
does. But all the templates I have used are basically copied into the
website and then you modify them as needed.
3. Are templates created in the root web available to authors of
subwebs?

Depends on the author's level of authority. If the author can't access the
root then no. The whole point of a subweb (as I understand it) is to make
it a standalone website that just happens to reside "under" the next level
up website. Yes, the upper website(s) have URL's that link to the subweb
but not anything else. That is the way I have been using them, at least.
4. Any idiosyncracies of FP templates that I should be aware of?

I'm sorry I couldn't address all the questions.
