Template problem

I have created a design template and have tweaked it to
where I am happy with the results. I started testing it by
alternating between it and other templates in the slide
design pane to make sure it will apply correctly. For the
most part it worked fine.

However, there are times when the icon for the new
template that shows up in the Used in This Presentation or
Recently Used sections applies the template with the wrong
text formatting on the title slide of my presentation.

I have noticed that sometimes the icon for the template
(in the design pane) shows up looking like the title slide
and sometimes it looks like the bullet slide.

When applying from the icon that looks like the bullet
slide is when the formatting problem occurs.

I thought this might mean that I have two versions of the
pot file saved on my machine and it was reading the wrong
one, but I only have one file.

I have tried to determine when the icon shows up as a
bullet slide vs the title slide and it seems like when I
double click the .pot file from explorer the file opens
fine initially, then switching to a different template
moves the icon down to the Recently used section and then
it takes on the bullet slide look.
Switchig back using that icon is when the formatting on
the title slide gets screwed up.

If I open a ppt file first and apply the new template to
it, the problem doesn't seem to happen. (the icon looks
like the title slide and it applys fine to presentations)

Also, when the icon shows up as the bullet slide in the
Recently Used section, I have noticed that the icon of the
title slide is an option in the Available For Use section.

Sorry for the long winded explaination. I'm using Office
XP, met some of you at PPTLive and know someone will be
able to help me...

Thanks
