Hi Julie,

thank you. There are tasks that have resources from both groups assigned to
a task and I want to separate the work so that each group will know their
commitment. I know that problem is that I can't find a way, or there isn't a
way to grab just the work for that resource group. that's really what i need
and if i had that, the ofrumual would work.

Hello Cyn,

Thanks for the additional information that you have resources from both
groups assigned to a single task. A formula is not going to work in
your circumstance because there is no way for Project to separate the
work hours being done by your internal versus external resources.
However, the good news is a custom group applied to the Task Usage view
should show what you want.

Apply the Task Usage view to your project file. Create a new group
(Project > Group By > More Groups, New.) Name the group with whatever
name suits you. Define the group as follows:

First Row:
Group By
Field Name: Name
Field Type: Task
Order: Ascending

*Select the option "Group Assignments not tasks*
Second Row
Then By:
Field Name: Resource Group
Field Type: Assignment
Order: Ascending

Click OK to close the group definition and then apply the group.

The custom group should group the tasks in the view first by task name,
then by the resource group assigned to the task. On the task line you
should see total work per task, aligning with the resource group line
should be total work per group.

Print the view and you should be on your way.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
