the expected version of the product was not found on your system

Hi all, I have been trying to install office 2000 sp3 on 2 different
computers but I keep getting the error message " The expected version of the
product was not found on your system" on both computers. The service packs 1
and 2 went down fine on both so I can't understand why I get the same message
on two different pc's
I have palm sync software installed to sync with outlook. I have also run
Detect & Repair but still no fix.

Would appreciate any replies on the matter,
