Track changes - final

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I am having an issue with Track Changes documents. Even if all changes have been accepted and I save the documents as "Final", when closed and reopened, they come up in "Final showing markups". I desperately need help with this. Hoping it's not a bug. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Well, *I* need help with information from you before I can safely say
anything :)

I need the update level for both Mac OS X and Word before I can safely
answer this. I also know which file format you're working in.

The more detail you give us, the quicker we can help you.

It is possible that the document has corrupted. If that's the case, a
Maggie may fix it:

The Maggie:

1. Create a new blank document
2. Carefully select all of the text in the bad document EXCEPT the last
paragraph mark
3. Copy it.
4. Paste in the new document.
5. Save under a new file name and close all, then re-open.

This technique for de-corrupting is known as "Doing a 'Maggie'", after
Margaret Secara from the TECHWR-L mailing list, who first publicised the
technique.

Hope this helps

As John indicated, more details would be helpful, but one point in
particular is not clear... Do the documents reopen with the changes still in
place or do they simply reopen in the 'Final showing markup' mode? If the
latter, that is normal & is to be expected.

There is no means to "Save the document as "Final"" because that viewing
mode has nothing to do with _saving_ the file. Also, it does nothing to
prevent changes from continuing to be tracked. It is simply a viewing mode
used to view the document with currently tracked changes hidden. What you
make no mention of is having turned Track Changes OFF in the document. As
long as Track Changes is turned ON in the document it will reopen in the
display markup view even if there is no markup to display.

Turn the feature OFF, Accept/Reject the changes, then save & close.

Aha! Okay, that was way too simple and apparently I was over thinking it. Forgot to turn off tracking after accepting all changes. I don't remember having to do that in the previous version. Thanks for thinking out loud with me. I really appreciate it!!
