Troubles with Outlook 2007 email

I'm running XP with all updates and IE 8. I'm trying to use Outlook 2007 for
my email accounts which are through my ISP Qwest DSL account,so they are, as
I understand it, basically Windows Live accounts. I have talked with Qwest
and they have given me some pop3 account settings but they say it's not
really supported to do it that way. I like to use it as a pop3 format
because then I get the notification message and sound when new emails come in
but if I use the Outlook Connector then no notifications are available as I
understand it because it isn't the Windows Live folders aren't the default
primary folder. Problems I have encountered include very persistant pop up
windows asking for network password when Outlook tries to check for email. I
have it check for email every couple of minutes and sometimes I can go a half
hour or so but other times just a couple of minutes and it again pops up for
the network password box with the pop3.live.com and the password already
filled in but unless you manually check "OK" it stalls at that stage. I
check the box for saving the password but it keeps popping up. I don't know
why it has started doing that. Another problem with Outlook is that I have
to go to options everytime I open it and I have to manually check the boxes
for the notifications by sound and envelope to be turned on again...it won't
keep the boxes checked by default. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
