Type 2 errors - help?

I've been using Excel without any problems for
several months. I have Excel 9.0 (2514) and OS 8.6
on an iMac.

With one particular very large file, when I try to do
"Save As" or enter data in certain cells, Excel crashes
with a Type 2 error ("The application Excel has
unexpectedly quit because an error of Type 2
has occurred.") I have worked on similarly
sized (4.5 Mb) files with no such problems.
I don't think the problem is with the file, as others
have used it on their own computers without any
problems. I've already increased Excel's memory
to over 100 Mb.

I've already been to
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/Q253/3/36.asp&NoWebContent=1

and that solution, moving four Extensions to
the Trash, did not work for me.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

Steve

How much RAM do you have on your machine, and how much is available
to XL? Setting the "preferred" memory amount only requests that
amount, if it's not available the OS will allocate less (but at
least the minimum). Do you have Virtual Memory on?

Have you applied all the relevant updates from

Mactopia downloads:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/default.asp

?? I'm not familiar enough with XL01 builds any more to know.

Did you empty the trash before starting XL? Actually, I don't think
it matters with OS8.6 (it does with OSX).

Have you moved or trashed the Excel Settings (9) file in the
Preferences folder? Make sure XL is not running when you do.
