Typing once and have repeats in a document

I am trying to make a form for which some items change from time to
time. The item is to be repeated in the document (not a footer or
header) in various predetermined places. Is there a way that allows me
to type once and have the identical text to be repeated in those places?

For example, suppose I want to repeat a date in several places. Can I
type a new date at a master location and have it repeated in slave
position? How?
