Hi,
I have successfully added a domain account in PWS, but when i tried to logon
using this domain account it does not allow me to.

The error message is:
you have entered an incorrect username/password combination (5002)

I verified that the domain username and password is correct.

any idea?

Are you typing in a username/PW combination into a loging screen?

If you are using windows authentication I would not expect you to get a
screen where you can enter a username.

The way that Windows Authentication works in project server is this:

You, as the administrator, create a user account in Project Server
(Admin | Users and Groups) and you specify that user as a Windows auth
user rather than a Project Server auth user (the radio buttons at the
top of the screen).

Now if you are logged into Windows as THAT Domain\username and then go
to the http://servername/projectserver url then Project Server will try
first to look to see if the currently logged in Windows user is
associated in the database to a Project Server user account. If it is
then it will take you straight to your Project Web Access home page. If
it does not match then it takes you to a login screen. You CANNOT enter
a Domain\username account in the login screen that comes up. This login
screen is ONLY for Project Server authenticated accounts.

Im assuming that the Windows account that you are logged in as on your
machine is different from the Domain\username account you are trying to
enter in the login screen. If this is true then logout of windows and
log back in as the domain\username you were trying to enter into the
login screen and then try again to get into Project Server.

Hope this helps.

Does the url you are hitting have an asp page included in the url or
are you going directly to the /projectserver directory and letting
Project Web access serve you a login page?

This means that project server does not see the windows account you are
logged into windows with as a valid Project Server account.

Please reply with the value for each of the fields in the top section
of the Modify User screen for the user you are trying to log in as.

This includes the radio buttons at the top and the username/loging name
fields at the top of the screen.

Thanks

it shows:
windows authentication, using the windows user account -> checked

windows user account: mydomain\username
email: left blank
user name: lynn
account status: active

groups that contain this user: administrator

Try to restart the service WWW.
That problem already happened sometimes with me. When I
restart the service, the Windows Autentication works again.

Is the domain specified for the user the same as the domain where the
Project Server is located? If not does the domain where the Project
Server is located have a trust relationship with the user's domain? The
domain where the server resides MUST trust the user's domain or the
authentication will not work.

both project server and user are in the same domain.

Then Im at a loss for why it would not work.

Do any of your accounts work with Windows Auth or is this the only one
not working? You are sure about spelling, etc.

Other than that you might give MS tech support a ring.

can i say that if the domain account is added successfully in project
server.

Im not sure what you mean by that. If you mean that the user you are
trying to log in as should be a member of a group that can login to the
server then I think that is correct.

You'll kill yourself after this. When you install MS
Project it asks you for a password because yours in
blank. This is the password to get into the SQL Server
Engine! (OSQL.EXE on the CD down \Support\DATABASE) Very
few humans ever go there or want to, but if you do you are
the Security Administrator (SA) and you type "osql -U SA -
P <the password you entered upon installation>".

Up one level from this cerebellum stage of the computer's
internals is the level of the "Web Access Administrator".

Up one level (on the surface) is the "Windows User" that
you use to get into your computer every morning.

These are THREE different users on THREE different levels
with THREE different passwords, which can frustrate
everyone to the hari-kari level once you try every
permutation and combination using the users and passwords
you know.

I found a hint deep in the online manual that said there
is an account created on "Web Access" installation
called "Administrator". Since this
mysterious "Administrator" had never set a password, I
simply tried typing in "Administrator" as the user and
left the password blank. It worked!

It sure would be nice if someone devoted a sentence on
that fact in the manual, huh?
