unable to open attached file in hotmail

Lately I am experiencing the following problems when trying to open an
attachment in my hotmail:
If I double click on an attached word document, it gives the following error
message:
'This file could not be found. Try one or more of the following: *check the
spelling of the name of the document *Try a different filename
(c:\...\thefilename)'

When I attempted to open a .pdf file, the screen flashed quickly a couple
times and returned with ‘There was an error opening this document. This file
cannot be found.’

When I attempted to open a .txt file, the screen flashed quickly a couple
times and returns with ‘Cannot find the C:\Documents and Settings\....
Do you want to create a new file?’

My system platform is XP sp2, MS Word 2002 (10.6764.6735) sp3, and I am
current in all updates. I would appreciate it very much if you could help me
resolve this problem. Thanks.

Save a copy of the attachment locally and then open it. Otherwise you
may have some problem with the operating system and the permissions for
your profile.(Ask about that in a group for the Windows XP operating system)

Thanks for your response. I know I can open the file after saving it onto
the hard disk. My question is, I used to be able to open attachments and I
can open attachments in Sympatico email now but not hotmail. What caused
this change? I will check with the Windows XP OS group. Thanks again.
