unable to open or run microsoft powerpoint 2003

I am getting the following error messages when i try to
open a blank microsoft powerpoint or any powerpoint
presentation:

"Powerpoint failed to launch in safe mode, would you like
to do a detect and repair?"

...saying yes to detect and repair did not fix the
problem..so when i click on 'no', i get another error
message:

"Microsoft office Powerpoint encountered a problem and
needs to close"

----
I have tried a detect and repair on the program, and i
tried to uninstall and reinstall the entire office 2003,
but it still did not fix the problem.

help!

How can i obtain the latest patches for powerpoint? I've
installed all critical windows updates already. is that
different?

update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
