Unable to reopen saved word Files

I have recently installed Office 2003 on my system. Everytime that I save a document, I am unable to reopen it. It tell me that the file is unavailable. Also, If I try to close out word, it constantly asks me to save chages to a "global template"
What is causing this

Uncheck the office plug-in in NortonAV.
If that alone doesn't fix it, see what add-ins are loading.
