Unable to save Shared Workbook in Network drive

S

Sandra Poh

Dear Officer In charge,
I have enabled an excel file to be shared in the network.
In this file, there some macro program.

My users office version is office 2000 SP3.
Mine is office 2002 SP3.

Thus, I have make sure that I have lowered my version during save as option.

Then, my users open the workbook and was trying to save it and it keep
telling the users that "Document not saved". Thus, I have gone to MS websites
and found that we can workaround by adding 2 registries as below.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\Options]
"NetworkResiliency"=dword:00000001
"PivotTableNetworkResiliency"=dword:00000001

I have then retry to reboot my users pc and also reopen the file and tried
to save the file and it still tell the users that "Document not saved".

Thus, I have checked that it might be due to the antivirus program.
We are using Norton Antivirus Full Version 10.1.0.396.
I tried to disable the File Protection and was able to save.
Is there any workaround so that the users do not need to
disable and enable the file protection all the time?

You have landed in a Macintosh Office news group. You may be able to get
better answers in a Windows news group. However, I have had EXACTLY this
problem with windows shared Excel and Norton AntiVirus. They have never
worked properly together. The only solution I have found is to disable
server scanning. Be very careful, however, to check that even when the
errors stop, there may be lost updates from the several users. Your best bet
is to locate the shared file on a server which is not protected by Norton.

Dear Bob,
I have retried to open the same file in my computer. When I open the file,
the file
contain some links and recalculate the links to 100%.

Then, the system will prompt the below messages.
"File is locked. In order to save changes to the file, you can either close
the file before making any changes and then re-open it, use Save As(File
Menu) to save the file using another filename, or turn off Shared Workbooks
and then save the file."

Then, I click "OK". then the system will prompt the below message.
"You are no longer connected to this file. Another user may have removed you
from it, or saved over it.

To preserve your unsaved work, click OK, and save the shared workbook with a
different name. You can then open the original shared workbook again, and
merge your changes from the copy of the workbook that you saved. For
information about merging workbooks, click Help."

Then, it will prompt to override the file or not and I override it, it
prompted "Document not saved.".

Pls help.

Try turning off sharing and then turning it back on while it is on your
computer. Are the links to other files valid? Are you aware that some
features will not work when the file is shared? But, the first step is to
clean up the file and make sure it works properly in single use mode. When
the file is shared, all those who open it MUST have read/write access to
that folder.
