Unassigned Resources in resource usage

T

Tim D.

We are using Project 2003 to manage our man-hour resources and project
schedules. It is not desirable to allocate man-hours to all tasks in a
project.

Some tasks still show man-hours in the "resource usage" view, even though I
confirm that they are ZERO, with no one assigned, in the Gantt Chart view
and/or "Task Information" tabs.

Why is this, and how can I correct the problem?

Hello Tim,
It's possible to assign some Work to a task without any resource assignment.
Check the Work value for that task : insert the Work column in any table.

Hope this helps,

The task has zero work valve, but still shows 40 hours/week in the resource
usage view.

Any suggestions?

Yes;

We have set up a resource pool and master project file; containing this and
other projects.

Hi,

So in the resource usage insert the Project column to see where these ghost
tasks come from.

OK, I've traced them to one project;
the unassigned tasks have no resources or hours given to them, yet they
tally in "Resource Usage"; but not in the "View...Reports".

Other that rebuilding this schedule; any thoughts?

Hi,

I'm about beaten.
My only guess is that an other project with the same name is also linked to
the pool, and in that project these tasks did have these resources assigned.

In the pool, check Tools, Resources, Share resources to se the fiull address
of cionnected projects.

Jan;

I am going to attempt to rebuild the file and re-resource each project one
at a time.

The glitch seems to arise when linking to a different resource file; and I
even noticed that changing the timescale created the unassigned hours.

I will start from scratch and let you know what I find..

Appreciating your help;

Tim
