Unavailable Templates

When you create a document from a template, the path and
template it used is stored. Later when you open the
saved document, it tries to locate that template.

My problem is if the template is not available it causes
Word 2000 to take a very long time to open the document.
If I delete the link to this template it opens quickly.

Is there a way to still use a template but when you save
a document have it not look for the template in the
original location?

The only solution I came up with is to ensure all
documents are created using a template in a common global
location. Given the many offices around the world this
would, it seemed like there should be a better solution.

Thanks,

Every document has to have an attached template. It starts as the template
used to create the document but can be changed. You can put a macro in your
template to prepare the document for outside transmittal. Have that macro
attache the normal.dot template to the document. This should speed up the
opening of the document in a different location.
