Unwanted lines appearing under inserted pictures & other objects.

Sometimes when I insert a picture or other object (i.e. an Excel worksheet)
into a Word document, an unwanted line appears beneath the picture or object.
It is not a border, nor is it the type of line one would draw using Word's
Drawing Toolbar. It seems to be part of the object itself. My guess is that
something happens when I insert the object, since I have checked every time
to see if this renegade line was part of the original picture or object, and
it is not.

Do you have Track Changes enabled? If so, the line is indicating an
insertion.

I don't think this will help you much but I have occasionally seen similar
in Word 2000 although not Word 2003 (you don't say what version of Word you
are using) and it appears as though something goes awry when some images are
scaled down and that the final row or column of pixels gets separated from
the rest of the image.

I can't really remember any more details than that but it might be worth
experimenting a little with different scaling factors and/or cropping images
to see if that clears it. As I said, I'm not sure it will help much but it
might explain it.

Doesn't seem to have an effect on new insertions or on pictures already
inserted? If the latter, then if Track Changes was on when you inserted them
and you haven't accepted changes, they'll still be marked. But see Tony's
reply.
