Update Docvariable in Footer as Section Changes?

Is there any way of updating a docvariable that prints in the footer as the
section changes?
The document has an order on it which contains multiple shipments, one in
each section of the document.
I would like the footer to print a different label (e.g. Shipment 1,
Shipment 2, etc) as it prints each new section. The shipment numbers and the
section numbers do not necessarily correspond.
Currently, I can get it to print on all pages, the LAST shipment number
only..

You'll need to use a different DocVariable for each section.

I don't see how that would work.. Let's say I want to print, in the footer,
"shipment 101", "shipment 105", etc as the shiments change in different
sections of the document.
Seems to me I would need to change the values for the SAME docvariable as
each section changes.. If I had them in DIFFERENT docvars, how would Word
know which one to print in which section?
