Upgrade CD won't install

Ed

I have a new PC and am not able to install from my Office
XP Pro upgrade CD - message says no qualifying product
found on hard drive.

I've used Office for years, originally qualifying by
replacing Word Perfect. I had my upgrade on my old PC and
activated the XP product. Now I appear to be stuck with a
new PC and no office software, including Outlook which is
my daily standby.

Any way that Microsoft will give me a break on this? Has
anyone else had this problem and solved it.

Thanks.

Find the original WordPerfect install disks, if you threw them away, yer
stuck!

If you read the EULA on the upgrade, it clearly stated that your qualifying
product becomes a part of the upgrade license. If you lose or give away the
qualifying product, your license to use the upgrade is invalid.

If you have the CD or floppy from your old computer, you need to "show" it
to the installation in order for it to continue. If you don't have it
anymore, you are not entitled to use the upgrade version and must purchase
the full version.

I find it shocking that Ed has to start with his WordPerfect installation.

Word-Perfect to Office 95 to Office 98 to Office 2000 to Office 2002 to
Office 2003. Does he have to instal each step completely before progressing
to the next?

Ne just need a qualifying product, it doesn't need to be installed, he just
needs the install disks so Office can verify that he qualifies for an
upgrade.
A list of qualifying products is clearly stated on the packaging.

I've had so many software packages in the last 30 years
of computing that I'm afraid I have given up reading the
EULA's - none of them were ever in my favor anyhow. I
suspected, as you say, that I'm stuck, as I have tossed
all my old disks, etc (And the new Dell I bought doesn't
have a floppy drive anyhow!) It just doesn't seem right
that I've spent all the change on buying each upgrade as
it came along and because I got some new hardware now
have to cough up for Bill once again. Ah, life is hard.

Duh! Ringwood is right, and I just couldn't see the tree
for the forest of old software. I tried again and when I
got the could not install message, I popped the Office 97
CD into the drive and voila - I have my beloved Office XP
back in place and all is well with the world - at least
my tiny part of it this morning. Thanks all for the
comments - helped me sort through my fuzzy thinking.

Ive tried to find info on this problem of Trying to install my upgrade copy of Office 97 on my new computer, it says Microsoft Works is a "qualifying product" and yet even though Works is on my
new computer, it wont recognize it. this happened before when i tried to install as i purchased
new computers and i used a file called " Share.exe" to complete the intstalllation, why cant Microsof
make the new versions of Works be recognized by Office 97, seems like a huge bug to me
and i question the motives of the designers.
