Upgrade Home and Student Edition

I have a MacBook with Office 2008 Home and Student edition. Works great, except I discovered that I can't use Entourage to sync with my Exchange 2007 server at work. If I bought Office 2008 for Mac, Standard Edition, Upgrade Version, would this do the trick? I certaintly don't want to have to buy the full Office suite! Finally, would the upgrade version install on top of the Home and Student edition I have now? Thanks

This sounds like the exact problem that was just answered in the thread
"Upgrade Home and Student Edition"

If you are asking using two different emails, this is frowned upon because
the volunteers here get double duty answering the same question twice.

You cannot upgrade H&S to full version.

No.

You can call Microsoft, they might allow you to exchange your product. You
can also call your vendor to see if they would exchange it.

An Upgrade is for moving from Office 2004 or Office X to Office 2008 not
from H&S to Standard edition.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply, and no, this is my first and only post on the subject here. I found the other post you mentioned, and similar subject but different poster.

Edit: Just read the reply to the similar post to mine and Bob Jones replies as follows: "I'm sure you can upgrade your license to Standard or Media Edition, it's just a matter of what the cost will be." I'm confused...

To be honest I haven't confirmed this for 2008 but it hasn't been a problem
in the past. The typical scenario has been where a student with the S/T
version has gone on into business after graduation or a teacher has left the
profession to go into writing or some such. By the terms of the S/T EULA
they can't continue to use that edition for professional purposes [ie,
profit].

If you find out some official info, please let us know. From reports when
Office 2008 was first released, we heard from users that either Microsoft or
their vendors allowed them to exchange their copy for the standard version.
Obviously, they had to pay the difference.

Normally, any software cannot be returned unless damaged after you have
opened it. If for example, you had been using the H&S version for months and
then find out you need Exchange, I would think it would unreasonable to
expect a direct exchange. If you were in say a 30 day period from purchase,
then you might have a better case.
