Upgrading from 2000 components to Office 2003

P

Patty

I have microsoft works on my computer. I recently upgraded to XP from Windows
ME. I also have an excel program which I bought separately and also the
Outlook program I bought separately. If I buy the upgrade version of Office
2003, will it update all the components such as word, excel, outlook, works
database? I don't want to buy and upgrade and not have it work because I
bought components not originally on the computer separately. Thanks.

Hi, Patty,

There are several editions of Microsoft Office. They are listed here:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/default.mspx

Each one has different upgrade eligibility, so you'll want to click on each
link to see what is eligible for an upgrade. Take care to note the
versions, also, and ensure you have the proper versions on your system.

To be more certain, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00
A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific time)
and ask to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. Worldwide
customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find
contact information in their locations.

I've called them and have had good luck speaking with a real person for
free.

Sue; Maybe you can help me too...I've been all over MS and can't get a
definitive answer. I run XP Proff SP2 purchased in late August 2003. I
didn't take Office 2003 (don't know if it existed then) because I had my
puchased copy of Office Pro 2000 and loaded it to the XP Pro. It looks like I
might be eligible for a free upgrade according to "Microsoft Office System
Retail Technology Guarantee
Published: August 15, 2003", however I'll be doggone if I can figure out if
I truly am and if so how I do it. Do you have a suggestion, please? I see
the number you suggested to Patty but thought I would check with you, first.

thanks, Bonnie

Bonnie, you are operating under several misconceptions:
1. Your references to "XP Proff SP2" and "XP Pro" are
apparently to Windows XP Professional. Windows XP and Office XP
are two different products.
2. The Microsoft Office System Retail Technology Guarantee
applied to customers who purchased Office XP during a certain
period of time immediately before Office 2003 was released. You
apparently purchased Windows XP, not Office XP.
3. Customers who qualified for a no-cost or reduced-cost
upgrade from Office XP to Office 2003 under the terms of the
Microsoft Office Retail Technology Guarantee had to submit their
request before December 31, 2003. That deadline came and went
almost two years ago.

GnO;
Thanks for the info. Perhaps you can tell me this. I have my own
purchased copy of Office Professional 2000 loaded onto my Win XP Pro OS. Do
you suppose I could get by with the Office Pro 2003 Upgrade vs the entire new
Office Pro 2003 Suite? I'm trying to save me some unnecessary spending.

Office 2000 Professional is a qualifying product for upgrade to
Office 2003 Professional, so yes, you can save some money by
purchasing the upgrade version instead of the full version.

GnO;
Thank you once again for saving me so much time. I REally appreciate your
help.

Hi Patty, I think I have a similar problem. I had a pc with MR. Too many
problems. But I had purchased Windows 200 Standard Upgrade and never used
it. I now have a pc with XP. Problem is I have Microsoft Works. Can I
install Microsoft Office 2000 Standard Edition Upgrade so I have Word, Power
Point, etc? Thank you.
