URGENT HELP REQUIRED

I

ian

I backed up a user profile onto the server, reinstalled
the user pc OS, and tried to bring back the pst file into
the user profile directory which worked fine until i
loaded the file in outlook and saw that the past 6 or 7
days of email was missing.
How can i recover those recent emails?
PLEASE anyone who can help, it will be much appreciated.

You apparently brought back an old copy of the profile, which included
an old copy of the PST file. As far as I know, the profile
files/folders are synchronsized with the server copy on login and log
out. Is there a more up to date copy of the profile or PST on the
server? Restore from yesterday's backup?

Suggest you discuss this in the Outlook newsgroup where there are more
experts. There, also say what kind of mail server you are using, what
the problem was that caused this maintence, etc.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I made sure it was the most recent file and the correct
profile, this is the second time is has happened and what
is quite odd is that the days it skips seem to be round
about the same

When you re-ask in the Outlook newsgroup, add this new information.
Same PC? Same mail server? What else happenend "round about the same" time.

Also explain fully the circumstances for why you ae having to do this.
Doing something like this twice is worth exploring.

There is more to this story, I suspect...

i will explain in detail and while i do that, i would just
like to thank you for taking the time to help.

I copied the user profile to the server, which i double
checked, then i reinstalled the operating system and
office.
I copied the profile back to the pc on which i did the re-
installation and the emails came up but it is missing the
last 7 days of email.
I am 100% positive that is was the correct pst file as i
have done this once before and the same thing happened.
I thought about your explanation the first time round that
is why i dbl checked is this time round.

Are you sure the missing emails were there before you copied the pst
file? What was the problem that cuased the need to re-install the
operating system??? (This is a very drastic step).

I can't think how a "few" emails could be deleted in a file. It's all
or nothing. There is nothing that I know of that can start up Outlook,
delete a few emails, and then quit. Only Outlook can modify PST files.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I am positive they were there, the system needed a clean
install because of numerous problems such as being slow
and lots of ad software being dropped onto it.
I had tried specific software to try and correct these
problems but to no avail.

I too, cannot see how these emails were deleted, this is
the strange thing.

More info as we peal the onion.... it's not possible, then, for this
nefarious malware to have any any possible chance at causing the mail
loss? Are there other security problems?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

You didn't, by any chance, just import the archive file?

__________in response to__________
| the unwanted software would not have done this as the
| other pc which this has happened on with me previously had
| no unwanted software on it.
|
| I can think of ideas where the whole lot will be deleted
| or the file would become corrupt, but this is mind
| boggling.
|
| I now am backing up daily manually as i cant have this
| happen again, i am really motivated to find an
| explanation, and again i thank you for your help.
| do you have any other ideas to work with?
