Used Computer

Jim Florence

I just purchased a laptop from a friend. Everything works just fine,
but he is the registered name with word so that every time I email a
word document as an attachment, his name appears when the attachment is
opened. How can I change the name to my own.

Thank you

Jim

Hi, Jim. In Word, click on Tools | Options | User Information. You can put your name here. This change will affect documents you create from this point forward, but does not affect existing documents.

This can be done by using the Registry Editor. Make a backup of the registry
first. 'Find' your friends name - which is bound to appear more than once -
and then substitute your own name. HOWEVER, I do not recommend you try it if
you have never edited the 'registry' before. Mistakes can be fatal and
laptop computers are far more tricky to reload than a desktop.
A local dealer should be able to do it for you.
