Users can't access PWA over VPN

I have the users added to the machine and they seem to work when used in the
local office. But they are not recognized as authorized when used over VPN.

What could the problem be? Thanks.

The users are Active Directory accounts and I have added them to both PWA and
SharePoint. Basically server.company.com/pwa is not accessible from outside.
