Using earlier versions of word as an editor to Outlook 2002

Can this be done? The option on my email options for
using word as an email editor are greyed out. I found on
the net a statement that the versions of word and outlook
have to match, but I am looking for clarification. Can
anyone point me to a MS article?

No - the versions have to match. This has always been true.
