Using junk-mail filter

Dan Kennedy

I've been having problems configuring Entourage's junk-mail filter to do
what I want it to do.

I want to turn on the filter to high and then set up a rule to intercept
junk mail automatically and move it to a folder called "Junk mail." Then I
can check it every couple of days to see if there's something in there that
I need.

I actually did this for a while, and it seemed to work. But then I found
that mail subject to other rules was being put into other folders, and I
ended up with several weeks' worth of mail that I had to go through, most -
but not all - of it junk.

I would think that the key is turning on the "Do not apply other rules to
messages that meet these criteria" feature. However, whenever I indicate
that I want to move junk to the junk folder, the "Do not apply" box gets
grayed out.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dan Kennedy

You need to make sure the rule to move junk e-mail is on top of the list of
rules. Rules on top of the list are applied first. Drag the rule to the
top if necessary.

Your rule should look like this:
* Execute actions if any criteria are met
IF Is junk e-mail
THEN Move Message Junk mail
ˆ Enabled

After a rule moves a message, no other rule will run on it, which is why the
"Do not apply other rulesŠ" checkbox is not accessible when you select the
"Move Message" action.
