Using % Physical Complete and Have Summary Progress

L

Leena

Hello - I want to use the Physical % Complete column to calculate EVM because
it is a better gauge of task completion. It is also the only field that I've
found that doesn't automatically calculate the actual cost based on time.

I enter resource hours on a daily basis to track actual costs. Any
suggestions on how to keep % progress independent from the actual hours I
enter and still show a summary level progress? Even if all my subtasks are
100% complete the main task remain 0% and I cannot even manually enter it.

Thanks, Leena

I run into this myself all the time. Every time it happens
(Physical%Complete does not roll up) it is because I have tasks with
%Complete as the EV method and other tasks with Physical%Complete as EV.

Two places to check:
1. Tools/Options/Calculations (tab), select Earned Value... and set it to
Physical%Complete.
2. Every task has an EV type visible on the Advanced Tab of the Task
Information dialog box.

The easiest way to change everyone to Physical%Complete is to show all
tasks, select all tasks, open the task info (icon) and then change it on the
advanced tab.

I have a lot of experience doing that....

To fix your actuals problem, Tools/Options/Calculation... make sure Actuals
are set to manual

i've change the earn value to Physical % complete for all task. still cannot get the result.

the 2nd solution given was..
"make sure the Actuals are set to manual"

when i in calculation tab...i cannot see which one is the "actual" that need to be set manual.

i'm using Ms Project 2003.
